Szawlowski Potato Farms, located in Hatfield, Massachusetts, is a fifth generation family-owned and operated potato farm. Founded by Polish immigrant, John Rupert Szawlowski in 1910, SWAZ Potato Farms is now one of the largest potato farms in New England. They grow White, Red, Russet and Gold varieties on 3,000 acres of fertile soil in the valley along the Connecticut River.
During their July through November growing season, SWAZ provides us with high quality, local, new potatoes. The Szawlowski family also operates year-round packing and shipping business, offering fresh product from growers across the country, once their season ends. They employ a full time supervisor of environmental safety who ensures compliance with industry wide food safety and traceability standards. They are committed to sustaining the rich history of farming in the Pioneer Valley. In 2010, Szawlowski Farms Agricultural Foundation was founded as a way to give back to the community. The foundation gives scholarships to local high school graduates who are pursuing a career in agriculture and supports Ag related curriculum in local schools.
105 years ago, my Grandfather emigrated from Poland, purchased some land along the banks of the Connecticut River and so it began. My three brothers and I were born and raised growing potatoes and to this day we live and breathe the business. It's in our blood. Now, the fourth and fifth generation oversees expansions into new technologies and the latest farm practices. We've always looked toward the future and evolved along the way.
Frank Szawlowski, Sr., 3rd generation, Co-‐owner, with brothers John, Chet & Stanley
