Somersets are early-maturing grapes that usually last through November. The medium-sized clusters are compact and the grapes are small, ripening to a pretty, orange-red color. Somersets are one of the best eating table grapes, wonderfully sweet with a strawberry-like flavor. They're great for juicing, snacking and making jelly. They are not slip-skin like Concords. Owners Ken and Eileen Farnan of Buzzard Crest Vineyards grow these fantastic grapes organically on their 37 acre vineyard in the Finger Lakes region of N.Y. State.
