Though often mistaken for blueberries, these mountain huckleberries are darker in color, have thicker skin and larger (but fewer) crunchy seeds inside. They have a rich aroma and complex flavor that ranges from tart to sweet. Blue huckleberries from the Pacific Northwest are great for making for making a savory duck sauce, for flavoring cocktails (drop a few in a champagne flute!), juices, syrups, jams, and baked goods.
