While advocating and practicing Integrated Pest Management methods that focus on producing safer food with less reliance on harmful chemicals and also applying many organically approved pest and disease controls, Andy’s Orchard is actively engaged in artisanal fruit growing. This is essentially the hands-on approach used by small growers who have not succumbed to the temptations of mass-producing their fruit and instead have opted to grow fruit in smaller quantities that is often of higher quality, flavor and nutritive value.
We tend to grow more of the older or heirloom fruit varieties since most newer ones have been developed for improved appearance and shelf-life, not necessarily flavor. Our fruit is also tree-ripened since most fruit improves tremendously in sugar content and flavor the last few days hanging on the tree before harvest.
“In the end, it’s all about the flavor.”
