Baldor Specialty Foods Takes a Stand Against Food Waste

Specialty Food Association Dec 2 , 2015
Baldor Specialty Foods launched a comprehensive plan to eliminate all organic waste. The company’s new program, SparCs, will offer produce trim, tops, and peelings from the company’s processing facility to chefs and manufacturers. Baldor wants other companies to incorporate these usable ingredients into their operations and redefine the term “waste.”

The company recently began a partnership with MISFIT Juicery, a company that produces cold-pressed juice from irregularly shaped and surplus fruits and vegetables. It is also in talks to supply SparCs to Brodo, a restaurant in New York City, and Dig Inn, a New York-based fast-casual chain.

In addition to addressing human consumption, Baldor’s program will also explore opportunities in animal feed and anaerobic digestion.
